The fort was built by first Portuguese Viceroy- DON FRANCISCO DE ALMEIDA in year 1505 and located in the west of Kannur town. This fort is protected as a monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. The fort was captured by Dutch in 1663 and sold in 1772 to Ali Raja of Kannur. Finally the possession goes in the hands of Britishers in 1790 and they reconstructed.
